meet Bryant harris

Bryant Harris is running for the Lawrenceville City Council because he knows, like former President James Madison that, “Good Government is the Happiness of the People” Bryant Harris is a proud lifelong resident of Lawrenceville, Georgia. He was born at Button Gwinnett Hospital and raised in the area. He was a student athlete and lettered in multiple varsity sports before graduating from Central Gwinnett High School.  

Bryant Harris has spent most of his adult life in public service.  Bryant Harris is a Marine, Former Probation Officer, Secret Service Uniform Division Officer, Graduate of the 285th Session of FBI National Academy, and current Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Major.  Bryant Harris has dedicated his career to the defense of this great nation and the service of his community with over 25 years of combined service.   

He was a Cum Laude graduate of Catawba College (May 2003), where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology.  He has also earned a Master of Science degree in emergency management from the University of Maryland Global Campus (May 2022). 

Nineteen years of his career have been with the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office. Bryant Harris attended the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office 14th Academy where he received the academic honor award.  As a deputy sheriff, he gained knowledge by working in various divisions which included the detention center, court security, field operations, and training unit.  He also served as a corporal in the fugitive unit before being promoted to sergeant.  As a sergeant, he supervised the family violence unit, field operations, and training section. He was promoted to lieutenant in June of 2021 and assumed additional duties while remaining assigned to the training section as the assistant director of training.  Bryant Harris assumed the rank of major on June 24, 2023, and is currently assigned to the Criminal Investigations Section. 

Bryant Harris has earned countless honors and awards while serving in the military and law enforcement. As a Marine, he was meritoriously promoted to corporal and received a letter of achievement for security during the Group of Eight Summit (2000 Okinawa Japan). While working for The United States Secret Service Uniform Division, he earned both the Academic and Director’s Awards.

Since his time with the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office, he received the Safariland Award for heroic courage and valor in the line of duty (SAVE #1799).  He also has several advanced Georgia P.O.S.T. certifications, which include Law Enforcement General Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Field Training Officer, and Jail Training Officer.  Additional certifications include Mental Health First Aid Instructor, Crisis Intervention Training Instructor, Use of Force Instructor as well as Georgia P.O.S.T. Supervision and Management Certification.
